The 2026 Every Child Matters T-shirt was designed Emily Galeazzi, a Grade 2 student from Coldstream, BC. More than just a shirt, it’s a symbol of hope, Reconciliation, and a commitment to a better future. By wearing an orange shirt on September 30th, you make a statement to support truth & reconciliation and commit to the enduring truth that “EVERY CHILD MATTERS”

Between the 1870s and 1996, more than 150,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children were taken from their families and placed in Indian Residential Schools.  For many, happiness became a distant memory or a dream.  Emily’s beautiful design offers a powerful symbol of hope.  Hope that Survivors find peace & happiness and hope that Canada’s reconciliation efforts will ensure a future where EVERY CHILD MATTERS.

Inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her orange shirt taken away on her first day at Indian residential school, The Orange Shirt Society uplifts the voices of Survivors and invites all people in Canada to walk the path of truth & reconciliation together.

The Orange Shirt Society was established in 2015 to:

• Support Indian residential school reconciliation
• Create awareness of the individual, family, and community intergenerational impacts of Indian residential schools through Orange Shirt Society activities
• Create awareness of the concept of “Every Child Matters”
